Adaptiva + Insight: Unlocking New Possibilities in Endpoint Management

The strategic partnership between Adaptiva and Insight Enterprises, combining OneSite Patch and Managed Endpoint, marks a significant advancement for organizations aiming to streamline IT operations and enhance endpoint management and security. To delve deeper into this partnership, we spoke with Adam Duffy, Senior Product Manager at Insight, and Keith Boesel, Senior Architect at Insight at our Adaptiva User Group session that we held in conjunction with the 2024 Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix race in Montreal. 

At Insight, Adam helps businesses maximize technology investments and improve experiences for end-users and customers, while Keith designs IT solutions to modernize environments, manage and secure endpoints, reduce workloads, enhance security, and increase productivity.

In this conversation, Adam and Keith discuss the advantages of Insight’s Managed Endpoint service, a modern and cost-effective approach to the administration and support of endpoint management solutions. They also highlight the impact of their partnership with Adaptiva, and how this collaboration fits into Insight’s broader strategy for managed services and IT solutions. Here's what they shared:

What is Insight’s Managed Endpoint service offering?

AD: Managed Endpoint by Insight is an admin-to-admin service that allows organizations to get out of the endpoint management business. Those day-to-day tasks – deploying software updates, configuring policies, keeping those devices up-to-date and working – are what we take off our clients’ hands so they can refocus their teams on other initiatives. From day one, this helps onboard and even modernize endpoint management for organizations. And if it’s an on-premise environment–or you're just trying to modernize–our plan can build in the time to migrate devices and modernize over time. That way you can deliver a new modern cloud-based result from your on-prem without disrupting your business.

What challenges do you see customers experiencing with third party patching?

KB: Our customers have been coming to us with a patching problem I've heard called, “the hamster wheel.” They constantly have to see when a new 3rd party application patch or update is available, then package that up, test it, and deploy it. By the time it gets deployed, there's another update – and then it all starts back at square one. There’s a constant churn on doing updates manually that prevents customers from driving security compliance and reducing risk across their endpoints at scale. Instead, now our customers can let us automate that process so they can move on to more strategic activities.

How does integrating Adaptiva’s OneSite Patch enhance Insight’s Managed Endpoint service?

KB: OneSite Patch will let us patch all the aspects of a device based on the unique patching rules of each of our customers. We've been updating operating systems and a few of the built-in components for a while, but there are a lot of other products and 3rd party applications on a device that can have vulnerabilities. Including OneSite Patch into the Managed Endpoint service offering will let us patch everything on the device, instead of just those core software packages.

Why did Insight choose Adaptiva OneSite Patch for Managed Endpoint? 

KB: Insight chose Adaptiva’s OneSite Patch because of the precise patching customizations we can do within the product. We can select which products are deployed and which devices get those updates. It’s a “set it and forget it” kind of solution that gives us a lot of flexibility to meet the customer where they are for what their needs are across their state.

Would you say that speed is important when it comes to patching?

KB: The automation of OneSite Patch allows us to push out updates immediately, even with zero day, just released patches. Our service will allow customers to automatically push out patches when there's a vulnerability out in the wild to immediately remediate those issues.

Why do customers need a wide catalog of third-party applications that can be customized?

KB: Our customers tend to have a core set of apps that overlap a lot, and each customer has specific applications that they use. Having a broad patch catalog that is continuously kept current to cover those applications is key to the service. Adaptiva has been great at accommodating custom requests for adding applications that they don't have in their catalog yet, quickly taking that request, packaging it up, turning it around, and publishing that out.

How will this partnership enhance Insight's strategy for delivering top-tier managed services and IT solutions?

AD: We're in the business of solving problems for our clients, and that comes with key listening. Usually, small problems can be a rabbit hole to find deeper issues and challenges inside their business. When we start with OneSite Patch to solve the input patching problem, we can dig deeper into the security problems that a client might have. The partnership between Insight and Adaptiva can help target some of the deeper problems that our clients are facing. We can address them strategically – step-by-step, one problem, one solution at a time – until we can solve the larger landscape of problems that a client might have. 

What else would you like customers to know about the partnership?

AD: We made a very strategic choice in our partnership with Adaptiva. Of all the various patch platforms and tools out there, we found the perfect combination of features, price point, and partnership with the actual team. It's the magic combination of those three things that help us to deliver on how clients want patches to be deployed. When we were able to build a service based on that, all the pieces were in place. Then we could achieve the target outcomes that we hear from our clients built into a service that extends our existing Managed Endpoint offer.
